Pleiospilos nelii, aka split rock, 'Royal Flush' or living granite, is a unique looking species of flowering plant in the family Aizoaceae, native to South Africa.

Split Rock is usually small and it doesn’t grow more than a few inches in height. It has two to four gray-green or purple opposite leaves that have a hemispherical shape. The stone-looking leaves are separated by a crack or a cleft, so you’ll often find this succulent labeled as Living Rock Cactus, Mimicry Plant, Cleft Stone, or Liver Plant. As they grow and produce a new inner set of leaves, the outer, older leaves will die away - this is normal.

Pleiospilos Nelii have unique water needs. They need even LESS WATER than most succulents as they grow in desert-like regions, arid or semi-arid, that don’t get a lot of rainfall.

Ideally, Pleiospilos Nelii succulents should only get water during the growing season, in spring and early fall. This plant can produce large, daisy-shaped golden blooms that open in the afternoon and close by nightfall.

LIGHT: Bright indirect light indoors, full to partial sun outdoors

WATER: Sparingly, IDEALLY only in spring and early fall. Use the firmness of the inner leaf pair to determine if your plant needs water.

PETS: Toxicity unknown, keep out of reach
